What Is a Career?
This journey is called the career journey; some of us have been on the road for a long time, while others aren’t even aware of the paths we’re walking. First of all, the starting point of this journey—that is, everyone’s career—is actually the same. Almost as soon as we start speaking, our career path begins to take shape. In the early stages of our journey, the role of chance is significant. For example, the kind of family you come from is a factor you can’t control, yet it plays a major role in determining the direction of your path. However, as you continue on this journey, chance will give way to your conscious choices. Over time, you’ll begin to write the script for the movie of your life and career.
Contrary to popular belief, a career doesn’t end with getting a job. It’s not a process that concludes with the choices you make after starting a job or with retirement. It’s a process that accompanies us like a shadow throughout our lives. Furthermore, a career is a dynamic, lifelong process that encompasses the games we chose to play as children, the friendships we formed, our school life from elementary through high school, the activities we participated in at school, the college and major we chose, and all of our leisure activities. Therefore, we can simply describe it as “a series of events that unfold throughout our lives.”
Without even realizing it, most of us have already completed half of our careers—and the most important part of them. In fact, the period during which we are generally most conscious of our careers is actually just the phase of our professional lives when we put what we’ve learned earlier into practice.
If you want to take control of your career at any stage and achieve your goals to live a fulfilling, happy, and balanced life, it’s never too early or too late to do so.
What Is Career Coaching?
It is an interactive method that enables individuals to achieve exceptional results by enhancing their performance. Professional career coaches work one-on-one with their clients on work and career-related issues. As a result of professional coaching, individuals set more realistic goals, become more proactive, make more accurate and appropriate decisions, and are able to leverage their existing strengths more effectively.
Who Can Benefit from Career Coaching Services?
Anyone who wants to shape their future can benefit from career coaching services. From preschoolers to college students, from employees to job seekers, and from retirees to mothers looking to return to the workforce, everyone can use their own inner resources to build a more fulfilling and successful life. Regardless of status—from building superintendents to top-level executives—anyone who is bold, enjoys exploring, and is eager to take control of their own life can engage in coaching to achieve the life they desire.
What Are the Characteristics of Rams?
Professional coaches provide an ongoing partnership designed to help their clients achieve their goals in both their personal and professional lives. They help individuals improve their performance and quality of life.
Coaches are professionals who specialize in coaching and may not have knowledge of a specific service area or industry sector. They may draw on their expertise in other fields to facilitate the coaching process, but they may never use that expertise to treat, direct, or generate solutions for the client.
Coaches are trained to listen, observe, and identify approaches tailored to the client’s individual needs. They derive solutions and strategies from the client themselves; they believe that clients are naturally creative and capable. The coach’s role is to provide support to help the client develop the skills, talents, and creativity they already possess. Through the coaching process, clients enhance their own performance and quality of life through their own deep learning.
What Methods Do Coaches Use?
In every session, the coach asks questions, contributes to the observation process, and listens while the client sets the focus of the conversation. This interaction and clarity enable the client to take action. Coaching accelerates the client’s progress by fostering awareness of choices and intense focus. Coaching helps the client focus on where they are now and what they want to become or achieve in the future. This process is supported by defined outcomes, the client’s actions, choices, and goals, as well as the application of coaching methods and the coach’s dedication.
“If you give a man a fish to eat, he can eat for just one day, but if you teach a man to fish, he can eat for the rest of his life.” For this reason, coaching aims not to tell clients which job is best for them right now, but to teach them the skills they can use again when a career transition arises—and to help them become their own coaches. The key is not that good coaches provide the right answers, but that they ask the right questions.
Benefits You’ll Gain from Career Coaching
Your life gains meaning,
You develop dreams for the future,
You develop a vision for the future,
You discover your life’s purpose (mission),
You know which of your talents you’ll use in your future work,
You know which of your qualities to invest in and develop,
You break free from indecision and chaos,
Instead of being someone who sets meaningless goals that won’t help you in the future, you’ll have the right goals aligned with your vision,
You’ll achieve the right results,
You’ll be happy.
Professionals Seeking a Career Change
Throughout your career journey so far, you’ve taken various paths to chart a course that’s uniquely your own. You chose this path—whether consciously or unconsciously—in the past. You may have once been very happy with your choices, but perhaps you aren’t anymore. Or maybe you’ve been unhappy from the start but haven’t been able to figure out how to be happy—or haven’t had the courage to do so—for many reasons. In fact, I’m sure some of you are even feeling burned out. The work you do no longer brings you joy; in fact, going to work may have even become a form of torture.
Some of you may have found the right path to follow but may not know, technically speaking, how to change course. Your dreams, your thoughts, and your heart are all fully committed to following this path, but when you think there are technical shortcomings on this path—which you want to reach as quickly and efficiently as possible—you may not be able to muster the full courage to do so.
No matter what your career journey has been like so far, whether you know what you want to do next or not, a career transition is never impossible for anyone. But what matters is whether the field you want to transition into is a good fit for you and whether you can make that transition in the best possible way.
Some studies I’ve shared below explain why most people find themselves searching for something new when they reach certain stages in their careers and why they want to switch jobs. A study of 4,500 people conductedby www.yenibiris.comfound that 70% of working professionals are not employed in fields related to their college majors. This study shows that these individuals also made the wrong career choice during their college years.
Work-Life Balance
According to another Gallup survey, 60–70% of employees do not like their jobs. These two studies complement each other. It is clear that choosing the wrong career will lead to unhappiness and failure in one’s future professional life.
During the educational phase of your careers, you charted a career path unconsciously, under the influence of others, by gravitating toward professions you thought were popular and would simply bring in good money—or even by becoming obsessed with so-called “secure” careers. After making so many mistakes, it was simply impossible for most of you to expect job satisfaction or happiness to follow. A chaotic path still lies ahead of you. One of these paths is the true path—that is, your path. Just as there are paths running parallel to this one, there are also paths that intersect it and paths that lead in the completely opposite direction. The important thing is to at least be able to get onto the parallel path. Because the cost of taking the wrong path usually comes in the form of wasted time and energy, and we may not be able to turn back whenever we want. After all, some of you have already walked down paths that weren’t quite right for you. As you know, if you take a wrong exit on the highway, you have to keep going until the next exit. You might end up driving another 50 or 100 km—reluctantly—in the wrong direction.
The Dynamic Process of a Career
If you want to shape your life not according to the direction of the wind but in line with your own talents, you can do so with the support of career coaching. Coaching helps you recognize the treasure within you and contributes to shaping your own life by utilizing these unique resources. A coach accompanies you on your career journey. They don’t dictate the path; instead, they help broaden your perspective. In reality, you do the coaching work yourself with the coach’s support. Therefore, by the time the coaching process is complete, you will have acquired the skills you learned through this process and will have become your own coach. You will have gained the competence to independently resolve similar issues that may arise in your career.
After coaching, success comes naturally because you know exactly what you love to do and what motivates you. You’ll develop a mission and vision for your career. To achieve this vision, you’ll set your own goals. Since you’re pursuing something you love, you’ll also have passion. With this desire and passion, taking action becomes very easy. Even if obstacles arise, you won’t hit a wall—you’ll definitely look for and find other ways to reach your goal. Instead of vague images of the future in your mind, you’ll now have big dreams.
